Preparation:

This first stage is all about gathering information. This is the stage where you do user research and empathise with the users in order to define the problem and your users’ needs.

Incubation:

At this stage, you take a step back from the problem and allow your mind to wander to let it contemplate and work the problem through.

Illumination:

This is the third stage. This stage essentially describes the classic “eureka!” or “aha” moment of insight. However, the fact that illumination has an entire stage devoted to it shows that it’s essentially not just a quick moment of insight and helps us understand that it’s something we can—and should—work towards achieving.

Verification/implementation:

At this fourth stage, you build on the “aha” solution. You evaluate, analyze and build on your idea. You then polish it to make sure that it’s both useful and novel. At this stage, you would also often choose to prototype and test your idea in order to find out if it meets the users’ needs which you defined at the preparation stage—and, if so, polish it as needed.

The Skills and Mindset Required for Sustainable Living and Development - Preparing young people for a sustainable future

Living in a sustainable and resource-efficient society calls for a particular set of knowledge, abilities, values, and attitudes. The shift towards more environmentally-friendly modes of production and consumption is critical for both developed and developing nations. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) underscore this need, with targets such as upgrading infrastructure and retrofitting industries for greater sustainability and efficient use of natural resources by 2030. Achieving these goals will require systemic change and the development of new products, services, and business models, which will, in turn, affect the skills and tasks involved in many occupations. Therefore, it is essential to prepare for a transition to a low-carbon, resource-efficient economy.

We aim to instill the mindset of futuristic individuals that will be concious of their innovations and sesitive towards their environment

Leadership

Global leadership competencies represent the combined set of knowledge, skills, and abilities that constitute effective leadership within an organization. Certain competencies are considered essential and involve strategic thinking, cultural intelligence, and a global mindset. Developing competencies is possible at any level and should include a combination of formal, developmental, and experiential learning. At GCs we aim to develop leaders with a global vision that can steer this generation towards a possible competent future in an ever changing enviroment.

Resource Centre

We provide an online resource centre with accessible learning resources for the participants | Building a learning culture| Research and reinvention hub

The advancement of mobile communication technology has contributed to an increasingly interconnected world; however, these devices are not being used as effectively as they could be to improve global challenges. “Global Citizenship Education aims to empower learners to engage and assume active roles, both locally and globally, to face and resolve global challenges and ultimately to become

proactive contributors to a more just, peaceful, tolerant, inclusive, secure and sustainable world (UNESCO 2014, p.15)”

Our aim is to promote open-mindedness, dialogue, ethics and partici-pation at the heart of educating for creativity and global citizenship.

The Haven

This is a space where we can have open heart conversations and allow ourselves to be authentically human. A global citizen must be physically, spiritually and mentally sound. In a world where mental health is stigmatized, we aim to make it the norm for our program participants to speak out and seek help without fear of judgement.

The idea is to trigger conversations that bring hope and healing to those around us.

  • One on one conversations

  • Group Conversations

  • Counselling services

For most of us, it's a chance that gave us hope and not a choice. It's the power of an opportunity that pushed us through. An opportunity being a chance for improvement. If no one gave me an opportunity or a chance to read widely at a young age I would never have known better, my path would have turned out different - Mwihaki Kahiga
